摘要
Conventional material of outer shell of helmets are not eco-friendly. So, an analysis of coconut-a natural material and ABS material, a semi-synthetic material is carried out for various analysis such as static, impact, and thermal analysis with the help of ANSYS Workbench software. The results from static structural analysis of Coconut shell were compared with that of existing ABS material. The stress in coconut shell is 77.658 MPa and 75.289 MPa for ABS material, which are comparable with not much of a significant difference. The deformation however showed a variation. In coconut shell deformation observed with 0.12968 mm and 26.445 mm for ABS material. Impact analysis was carried out taking impact velocity of 5 m/s. This resulted in a significant difference between the values of stress in those materials. The Equivalent stress in coconut was as 197 GPa while the stress in ABS material was 5.196 GPa. To study the insulating properties and temperature gradient of both material, thermal analysis was conducted. The temperature range was 22 degrees-45 degrees for both the materials. The coconut shell shows good insulating properties. In static and thermal properties, helmet with coconut shell as its outer layer resembles the existing ABS material helmet. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd.
