摘要：

We present an overview of the contemporary objective approach to image quality assessment in diagnostic imaging. This approach uses the performance of algorithmic or computational model observers (M.O.) to assess image quality for specified detection and discrimination tasks. These observers are closely related to computational algorithms used in computer-aided diagnosis (CAD). To the extent that the M.O.s mimic CAD observers, they provide a basis for image quality assessment for systems used in CAD.
