Radiographic Inspection of Composite Materials

The composite materials are very popular and widely used in various branches of industry for over fifty years. The issues associated with corrosion of steel and its reduced resistance to aggressive environments brought upon the introduction of new, very durable composite materials to almost all applications. Constantly growing participation of composites in many constructions causes the need of extensive testing of those materials. Radiography is one of the methods that can be successfully applied in evaluation of composites. Nevertheless, due to high opacity of composite materials and low contrast of defects, the application of radiography in this area is limited and needs some additional preprocessing of specimens before investigation.
