Role of phase and grain size on chip formation and material work hardening during machining of single and dual phase steels

摘要
The present investigation focuses on the role of phase and grain size in steels on material deformation and work hardening associated with chip formation in orthogonal turning. The study covered single phase (ferritic, austenitic) and dual phase (duplex, ferritic-pearlitic) materials. Results indicated a strong effect of phase on primary chip parameters, material work hardening and tool chip friction but a limited effect of grain size.
