Statistical study of the reconnection rate in solar flares

摘要
Reconnection rate defined by (inflow velocity)/(Alfven velocity) is one of the key parameters for understanding the physics of magnetic reconnection. In this paper we utilize the method for determining the reconnection rate from observational data suggested by Isobe et al. (2002) for 7 solar flares and 2 giant arcades. We have found that the reconnection rate is 0.001-0.2, which is consistent with the fast reconnection model by Petschek.
