School, as an institution, receives new demands from modern society due to technological, social, and cultural development in the past decades. Within this context, one of the most important issues, to which the school should adapt, is formatting a new structure of education that contributes to sustainable development. It comes to light the need for school to form the student to also contribute in building and maintaining an increasingly sustainable society. That being considered, this study aims to understand the importance of sustainable leadership in promoting education for sustainability, while mapping of the key features to its application and subsequent achievement of good results with the new type of school leadership. The methodology is built by collecting data and literature review. It is possible to conclude, then, that the practice of leadership for sustainability is likely to be learned by any individual and should be internalized by managers, teachers and students.
