Usefulness of low-dose Dobutamine echocardiography for selection of patients with severely depressed left ventricular function for coronary bypass grafting

摘要：
To evaluate the prognostic impact of preoperative low-dose dobutamine echocardiography in coronary patients with an ejection fraction <25%, we compared the outcome of 62 patients who underwent bypass surgery and 42 coronary patients who underwent heart transplantation. Our data indicate that bypass surgery provides survival benefits only when significant amounts of viable myocardium are detected preoperatively by low-dose dobutamine echocardiography and that whenever myocardial viability is not detected, heart transplantation should probably be the preferred therapeutic option.
