GLOBALIZATION AND SUPRANATIONAL INTEGRATION IN LATIN AMERICA

This paper studies the status quo and the future of Latin American supranational integration. For this, the study highlights the legal challenges posed by globalization for constitutionalism and the subsequent reformulation of classical concepts such as sovereignty, nation and democracy. It will also be considered the changes of the relationships between spaces, norms and legal categories. From these premises the study focuses on three different areas. On the one hand, on the basis of current legal globalization, it will be remembered the thesis about the common American constitutional law. On the other hand, the paper aims to record the current situation of Latin American integration and regionalism through a basic description of the main alliances and international and supranational organizations created in this region. Finally, it will try to identify the main factors (political and legal) that currently hinder progress in supranational integration in Latin America. And, consequently, highlight the main challenges that Latin America faces in the coming years if aims to take a leading role as global actor.
