Social work and poverty alleviation in South Asia

This paper will argue that the extent of poverty in South Asia is completely unacceptable, that its alleviation requires and demands a major concerted effort, and that social work has both the potential and the responsibility to contribute to that task. For that to occur, however, there will need to be significant changes made to the nature of social work education throughout the sub-continent. This paper will focus predominantly on the three countries of Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka.
