摘要
A new species of burrowing barnacles Lithoglyptides echinoideus was found in the hydrocoral Distichopora sp. offshore Island Nauru (around 00.degrees 30' S, 166 degrees 55' E) at a depth of 19-20 m. This species possesses four terminal cirri and caudal appendages like other species of the genus Lithoglyptes. Its opecular bars bear conspicuous conical opercular projections with longitudinal rows of curved teeth, the lateral bars are absent, the orificial knob is smooth and not armed with spines and setae, the caudal appendages are two-joined, second and third mandibular teeth differ only slightly from denticles of the lower part of blade. L. echinoideus differs from other Lithoglyptes species in having several well-developed longitudinal rows of curved teeth of opercular projections and in reduced sizes of the second and third mandibular teeth. It also differs from L. mitis Tomlinson and L. habei Tomlinson in the absence of armament of the orificial knob area.
