The Europeanisation of policy to address poverty under the new economic governance: the contribution of the European Semester

This article addresses the new economic governance displayed during the current economic crisis and its contribution to the coordination and supervision of national action to tackle poverty. Considering this period as a new stage in the EU policy to combat poverty, our starting point is the most significant initiatives recently launched by the EU in this field and to which extent policy against poverty is affected by the new EU economic governance framework. In this context, we will analyse the consideration of poverty under the European Semester and the validity of its tools to concretise EU guidelines in national policies.
