SH wave in a cylindrically anisotropic elastic solid - A general solution for a point source

Propagation of a transient SH wave in a cylindrically anisotropic solid is considered and an exact solution is obtained as a general solution for an arbitrary cylindrical anisotropy. In the special case, where the ratio of radial and circumferential velocity is an integer or one half, the solution is reduced to a closed form involving simple algebraic functions. When the velocity ratio is not an integer, a circular wavefront appears as if the wave were scattered by a wedge. This is because the wavefront, when it first hits the origin, forms a wedge-like angle there. This new wave phenomenon was originally found by Bostrom et al. [6]. But, the present paper gives its analytical base and the general feature of wave phenomena in the cylindrical anisotropy.
