摘要
The present study investigates the impact of antenna frequency on the determination of in-situ moisture within the asphalt pavement layers using GPR. According to the international experience, the electric permittivity of the asphalt layer has been related with the moisture content of the asphalt material. This relationship is used to assess the moisture content in the asphalt pavement layer of a highway section utilizing a GPR system. The system was operated with two antennae, of 1 and 2 GHz central frequency. The GPR data were analyzed to define the electric permittivity as a variable of the moisture content of the asphalt material. A comparative analysis is applied focusing on the differences between the 1 and 2 GHz readings in terms of electric permittivity values that are used for the calculation of moisture content. The related findings suggests that there is the need to develop a standardized procedure to assess the asphalt material moisture with GPR defining, amongst others, the required antenna frequency.
