Tribute to heroes and patriotism in Ecuador

Concern regarding the constant nationalization of History in Social Science text books made by varied governments in turn, has generally been turned into the inclusion of the 'hero' entity, which symbolizes the national values in those textbooks. In this article we analyze the way in which that movement has inspired the writing of the official history texts, as well as the selection criteria for the different heroes in every historical period from prehispanic to the republic era. We also show how in rather recent times, the creole hero model created during the emancipation process started to let way to diverse praising paradigms of the Native and African descendants contribution to the national State.
