A correlative study of the plaster - of - paris from various salt-pan gypsum samples of Kanyakumari and Tuticorin districts, Tamil nadu, India

In Kanyakumari and Tuticorin districts, different sources of brines are used for the production of common salt. During the production of common salt, the by-product gypsum is precipitated at a density ranging from 16-25 degrees Be. The different samples of gypsum obtained from the above salt-pans are converted into plaster of paris and the properties like compressive strength, setting time and the thermal behaviour are determined and correlated with each other and also with the plaster of paris sample availed from market.
