Parliamentary elections, government instability and democracy perspectives in the Czech Republic

This article analyses the June 1996 Parliamentary elections' results in the Czech Republic. It studies their consequences, with particular regard to the minority government. It explains why, given the present circumstances, especially the party system and the electoral system in force within the parliament, potential governmental instability and polarised or extreme multipartism exist. The article concludes with thoughts on democracy perspectives in the Czech Republic and on the possible methods of changing the parliament electoral system.
