Basic observations on electro-rheological fluids

摘要
The early observations which lead to the ''Water Bridge'' theory of ER fluids are described. The key features are, firstly that a very wide range of materials show some ER response, and secondly, that although the electric field evokes the inter-particle force, it can be shown that the latter is not purely electrostatic.
