Post-emergence and pre-emergence residual activity of MaisTero® against black nightshade (Solanum nigrum L.)

A growth chamber trial was conducted to determine the ability of MaisTer(R) (Foramsulfuron + Iodosulfuron) to control Solanum nigrum (SOLNI) in post- and pre-emergence. By staggering the sowing, 12 sets of SOLNI were treated each separated by 3 days. A single application of MaisTer(R) (plus adjuvant) at the proposed field rate of 150 g/ha gave complete control of SOLNI post-emergence at the largest growth stage tested (3 leaves expanded). Complete pre-emergence control was also obtained for seedlings emerging up to 14 days after application (latest sowing date). The watering method (form above or below) did not significantly influence herbicidal efficacy. The trial has demonstrated the strength and flexibility of MaisTer(R) on an important broad-leaved weed.
