摘要
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among urban Indian women. Its incidence in urban areas has surpassed that of cancer of the cervi. For instance, in the city of Bombay, the Tata Registry indicates that breast cancer is responsible for 22.16% of cancers among the city's women, while the corresponding figure for cervical cancer is 16.94%. And this rate has been on the rise again, in Bombay, between 1964-66, the rate was 10.9 per 100.000 population, whereas two decades later, between 1983-87, it had increased to 15.8 par 100,000. The lifetime risk of acquiring the disease is 1:24. Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer mortality among Indian women.(1).
