The Psychologist readership and membership survey

Following pilot work, a questionnaire survey of the entire membership of The British Psychological Society was conducted in June 1995. Questionnaires were sent to each member of the Society enclosed with their June Psychologist. By the deadline at the end of July, 4,551 completed questionnaires had been returned. This represents a 20 per cent return rate (based on the December 1994 membership). Analyses of the sam pie structure showed it to be reasonably representative of the subsections of the Society and of membership types within the Society. The survey yielded a large data set. Analyses presented in this report are selective. Only major trends in the data are reported. Further analyses are possible and the data set is available to the Society. Findings can be subdivided into those which pertain to the operation of the Society as a whole and those specifically concerned with The Psychologist.
