The role of Bi4Ge3O12 as an auxiliary scintillator for alpha/beta/gamma liquid scintillation counting and low-level counting

摘要：
We describe a liquid scintillation counter using a hybrid Bi4Ge3O12 detector which is optically coupled to the same photomultipliers that detect cocktail scintillation events. Application of the Bi4Ge3O12 detector allows simultaneous assay of alpha/beta/gamma samples and greatly enhances low-level counting. Bi4Ge3O12 photon emissions, absorption and afterglow characteristics are discussed in relation to alpha/beta/gamma counting performance.
