Modern product development emphasizes to design reliability and safety into the products instead of adding improvements later through a Test Analysis and Fix (TAAF) process. The paper discuss each phase in the life cycle of a product with emphasis on the product design and discuss which international standards that can support the design process for an optimum reliability and safety level, taking into account cost, schedule and performance.
