摘要
This paper introduces a new concept called video proxy server for the transmission of video over wide area networks (WAN). The new video-on-demand (VOID) system structure is presented and the operational mechanism has been introduced based on the introducing of VOID video proxy server. A smoothed aggregated video stream is delivered over WAN through VOD proxy in pull model. The bandwidth efficiency of VOID proxy is experimented, and the buffer management of the VOID proxy is presented and its efficiency is analyzed in comparison with references. With an additional plain computing power VOD proxy, the VOID system can support low computing power clients, and the complexity of VOD server is reduced enormously. From this mechanism, the costs of delivering video over WAN reduced also.
