摘要
This essay analyzes racial messages embedded in Elizabeth Bishop's writing. It examines tropes of Africanness as well as other material pertaining to race and class. The essay focuses attention on two poems from Bishop's early career ("Cootchie" and "Songs for a Colored Singer") and a story and a poem from her later career ("Memories of Uncle Neddy" and "In the Waiting Room").
