摘要
Metacinnabar and cinnabar, as sub-millimetric crystals, are associated within polymetallic ore at the Oued Maden mercury mine. They formed during stages 3 to 5 of a complex five-stage paragenetic sequence. Electron microprobe analyses of these two sulfides reveal various Cd and Zn contents. Reflectance data of metacinnabar in air and oil indicate a decrease of the reflectance in the major part of the spectrum with increasing Zn and Cd substitutions. At Oued Maden, Cd and Zn play the same stabilizing role as Fe in other occurrences for the crystallization of metacinnabar below 345 degrees C.
