Guiding of dynamic skyrmions using chiral magnetic domain wall

Magnetic skyrmions are expected to offer novel functionalities in emerging magnetic devices. However, when the skyrmion moves along a nanotrack, its trajectory is generally curved by the skyrmion Hall effect, resulting in an annihilation of skyrmion at the edge. Here we propose a method to avoid this edge-induced skyrmion annihilation. We found that the annihilation of skyrmion is largely suppressed when we replace the conventional edge with a chiral domain wall boundary, due to topological repulsion. We also provide device architectures that enable the guiding, sorting and size-tuning of multiple skyrmions, which could be potentially useful for future skyrmion devices.
