摘要
UWDA vocabulary is one of the UMLS source vocabularies. It contains over 40,000 concepts in the 2002 version. Due to the size and complexity, it is unavoidable that some inconsistencies existing. In this paper, we develop a method to discover inconsistencies and errors in the UWDA vocabulary. Our method is based on identifying shortcuts, circles, and diamond structures in the digraphs. that are derived from transitive relationships in the UWDA vocabulary. Shortcuts, circles, and diamond structures in these digraphs exposed the inconsistencies and errors in the UWDA vocabulary. Examples and statistic number are presented. The list of concepts that occur in these three structures and likely have inconsistencies is reported to the designer of the UWDA vocabulary.
