摘要:
Active dignity is a concept of dignity that anchors dignity not in the status of a person but in their (current) condition. According to this very controversial view, human dignity can not only be violated, but can even be lost. In her monograph Wurde als Haltung (Dignity as Attitude/Posture), Eva WeberGuskar is making a strong case for active dignity, as she argues that dignity ought to be understood as a particular condition that persons find themselves in. Weber-Guskar describes this particular condition as "being in accordance with oneself". This article accepts Weber-Guskar's concept of dignity in principle. Yet drawing from theological sources, it advocates an extended version of this concept, i.e., a concept that can integrate (apparent) non-accordance with oneself.
