摘要：

The mechanisms that combine to cause stabilisation of clay slopes using quicklime Files are presented. The way in which these mechanisms have been incorporated into a design procedure for the use of lime piles in this context is explained. Recent exhumation of trial piles has provided further information about the behaviour of lime piles and this is discussed in the context of design. A summary of the implications for the future use of lime piles is given.
