Consequence assessment of large bomb explosions in urban areas

At TNO Prins Maurits Laboratory a case study has been carried out to quantify the explosion effects and the consequences for a building at a certain distance from a large car bomb explosion in an urban area. Different urban configurations have been considered in order to obtain a range of relevant blast loadings. In addition, the vulnerability of different types of structures has been studied. Together, these data sets form a methodology to estimate the seriousness of a nearby explosion for a building in an urban environment and to determine the necessity for retrofit measures.
