Formation of the first Russian cities in the Northeast Caucasus and their role in the process of incorporation of the region into the Russian empire

The article examines the period of the emergence of the first Russian cities in the North-Eastern Caucasus in the 18th century, which occupies a special place in the incorporation of the region. As new cities were incorporated into Russia, the government had to adjust the strategy of building relations with the Slavic population.
