Public-private partnerships for infrastructure development in Greece

This paper sets out to add to the growing European literature and empirical database on public-private partnership by reporting the findings of several Greek pilot projects selected from across the sectors of the Greek I economy. Following a review and critique of what has been achieved in the field in Greece during the last years, it includes a methodology of pilot projects' identification and their development by taking into account characteristics and special features of the Greek market by applying the experience of the UK PFI. Also, it presents, the critical legal issues and the EU funding issues considering the aspects and requirements of the specific PFI projects in order to be feasible and viable in the Greek market environment. It concludes by examining how the PPP alliance in Greek practice may change the main organizational, social and cultural features that encourage or inhibit collaboration transition to a global environment.
