This paper is related to the oral presentation made by the discussion leader during discussion session 1.3. The presentation is focussing on the variety of models that are necessary to the geotechnical engineer beyond constitutive models of soils. The most innovative elements, in relation to the topic of this discussion session, found in the papers to the conference are highlighted.
