摘要
A need exists for a rigorous definition of the kinds of fringing fields found near power lines and appliances such as computer monitors and television receivers. Basic definitions of the electrical quantities are presented. Understanding the electromagnetic theory of audio frequency fields is approached by the definition of a scaler electric potential function Phi and a vector magnetic potential function A. The proper vector calculus derivatives of these potential functions yield mathematical definitions for the electric field E and the magnetic intensity H. The theoretical physics approach to power line safety problems is based on the mathematical theory of boundary values on partial differential equations. The theory of an electromagnetic traveling wave is sketched. It is a special combination of magnetic and electric fields that is nearly impossible to attain at audio frequency. The use of this theory will be given in Part Ii of this paper.
