摘要
Automotive industry is growing year by year, and therefore the demand for applications is also increasing. There is a rich pool of Linux and Android applications that are of interest for automotive use cases. To be able to execute such a variety of applications, the target environment needs to support multiple operating systems, which puts further challenges in front of implementation in terms of orchestration and resource usage. In recent years, container technology has evolved and made it possible to run two operating systems sharing the same kernel on a single platform. The fact that containers require less resources compared to hardware virtualization makes them a viable approach to run two operating systems in parallel on an embedded platform, each executing their own apps. As of today, there are solutions offering delivery of applications, but targeting a single platform. In this paper we propose an approach where the applications delivery, installation and execution are implemented in a generic, transparent way to the user. The solution is based on execution of Android in a container on a Linux host, with a complementary workflow that allows equal execution of both native Linux and Android applications.
