A general solution for chromatic aberration in a gradient refractive index rod lens

摘要
We present an approach to a general solution for chromatic aberration in a gradient refractive index rod lens. Four kinds of materials system are used in this study: thallium glass, caesium glass, diallyl phthalate-methyl methacrylate (DAP-MMA) and diethylene glycol bis(allyl carbonate)-poly(1,1,5-trihydroperfluoropentyl methacrylate) (CR39-8FMA). The results of numerical simulations reveal that the chromatic aberration of the focal length, as well as the longitudinal and lateral chromatic aberrations depend on the ratios between the changes in periodic length caused by wavelength and the periodic length. By reducing the ratios, the chromatic aberration of focal lengthas well as the longitudinal and lateral chromatic aberrations at any lens length are effectively decreased. This will be useful in building the relationships between gradient refractive index glass and gradient refractive index polymeric rod lenses when researching chromatic aberrations.
