摘要
Francesco De Sanctis' Storth reserves ample space to discuss the Middle Ages, an era, which culminates in Dante and comes to an end in his opposite pole, Boccaccio. This hypothesis remains a preferred point of view in the study of early Italian literature, provided one takes into account the necessary hermeneutical correctives, and, above all, the fact that, for Dante, allegory is an integral part of the poetic beauty of the Commedth and, for Boccaccio, the theological ethical thinking plays a non-secondary role in the Decameron. Hence, the reasons put forward by the critic De Sanctis to establish a historical cultural frontier between Dante and Boccaccio remain valid, in that the authors belong, not only to different generations, but to different religious and cultural worlds.
