Development of integrated CAD system for support in all design phases

The most well known computer aided design (CAD) systems are not supporting all phases of engineering design process. These CAD systems have modules for drafting, modelling or engineering analyses, which are second or third phases of design process. The first design phase, known as conceptual phase, is not supported. CAD system with integrated module for support in conceptual phase, based on "Case-based Reasoning" (CBR) methodology is presented in this work. This CBR-CAD system supports design activities during all phases by retrieving previous known design cases from the case-base. Designer can use these cases like patterns in solving new tasks. Known design cases are represented in database (case-base) by using object-oriented technique. Design cases are divided by technical product partial functions into subsystems. In this way designer can get better support in solving new design tasks.
