Normal human infants cry more in the first three months than at any other time in their lives, unaccounted for by illness or disease. Paradoxically, this crying predisposes to clinical complaints, discontinuance of breast feeding, erosion of parenting confidence, and even infant abuse and death (colic syndrome).
