SELECTED ASPECTS OF PRIVATE EQUITY INVESTING IN TURNAROUNDS AND RESTRUCTURING IN GERMANY'S MITTELSTAND OR SMES

This paper intends to give a raw overview to selected aspects of Turnaround Around Investing by Private Equity in the German "Mittelstand. Though academic interest for Turnaround investments by Private Equity has risen and will become more important, little systematic research has been done in this field so far. Who are the players in this niche market? What are the reasons for Private Equity investors to be active as well as specific aspects about the German SMEs market or German "Mittelstand" ? What are the characteristics and challenges behind Private Equity investments ? It is intended by the following to lay out the foundation for a much more detailed analysis through a current dissertation undertaken by the author. It is also noteworthy that this paper cannot discuss all relevant aspects relating to Private Equity in detail but aims to pinpoint to specific areas of Private Equity Investing and its challenges.(2)
