The effect of municipal effluent using pressure and surface irrigation methods on selected soil chemical properties in an arid region

摘要
An experiment was carried out to evaluate the effect of different irrigation methods (subsurface drip (SSD), surface drip (SD) and Furrow (FI)) with a municipal effluent and fresh water on selected soil chemical properties in a calcareous soil in 2005 at Marvdasht wastewater treatment site (Southern Iran). The effect of different irrigation methods with effluent on soil properties was not similar. The effect of pressure irrigation systems on soil salinity was significantly different as compared to surface irrigation method. Also the effect of the effluent on soil salinity differed significantly as compared to fresh water. A significant difference between the effect of irrigation methods and also between the water qualities on Na+ concentration was observed. SAR was significantly increased in plots irrigated with the effluent, whereas it was decreased with fresh water. Fresh water had decreased the Cl- concentration in the lower soil layers. The effluent had increased significantly the concentration of SO42- Compared to fresh water.
