Development of carbon/glass fibre reinforcement polymer hybrid composite through modeling and simulation

摘要
This paper investigates the optimum mechanical properties of hybrid composites through modelling and simulations. Glass fibre reinforced polymer composite has low stiffness and high elongation in comparison to carbon fibre reinforced composites. Therefore, there is a need to develop hybrid composite having high stiffness and elongation. Modelling and simulation (using ANSYS 16) has been done for pure carbon(C10), glass(G10) and one hybrid ([GGGCC]s) composites to determine the natural frequency of the those composites and fond a good agreement with the experimental vibration test results. Further, ten different hybrid composites were designed and simulated to obtain maximum stiffness. It is observed that [CCGGG]s hybrid composite has maximum stiffness as compared to other combinations through simulations. The simulated results has been compared with experimental one and found a good agreement between them. Therefore, the proposed modelling and simulation method is capable to predict the mechanical properties such as stiffness without conducting the experiments which can save time, material and cost.
