Pseudomyxoma peritonei due to a ruptured mucinous cystadenoma of the spleen

Background: Pseudomyxoma peritonei is a rare disease. The appendix is the primary site of origin in the majority of cases. Methods: Case report. Results: We report an unusual case of pseudomyxoma peritonei that developed from a primary splenic mucinious cyst adenoma. The patient was managed by splenectomy, appendectomy, bilateral salpingo oopherectomy and local debulking of the disease along with intraperitoneal hyperthermic chemotherapy. Conclusions: In this rare case, Pseudomyxoma peritonei that occurred due to spontaneous rupture of primary splenic mucinous cystadenoma was successfully managed by surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy.
