Phase-transfer catalyzed asymmetric alkylation and Michael addition of 5-silylalkynyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-one were developed as a novel strategy to provide highly modular tertiary alpha-alkyla-alpha-hydroxy acids bearing an alkyne moiety.
