摘要
A method for assessing the stability of discontinuity - controlled natural rock slopes is presented. The method is based on a new, simple peak shear strength criterion for rock surfaces, which implies that peak shear strength at any normal stress is the result of one purely fictional and one purely geometrical component. For large natural rock surfaces the geometrical component can be neglected and the peak shear strength can be estimated from the fictional component only. The method is successfully applied to a number of failed natural rock slopes.
