摘要
A system integrated with multiple antenna elements suffers from the adverse effects of mutual coupling arising from the close proximity of the elements. This paper proposes a method to increase the isolation between microstrip patch antenna elements by using a metamaterial superstrate. By using this technique, it is possible to increase the isolation up to the level of 30dB at the resonant frequency with an edge to edge distance of lambda(0)/18.5 between the antenna elements. At the same time, the gain and efficiency of the antennas are also enhanced.
