摘要
The Sam'al (Zincirli) material imagery is examined as a case study in an attempt to construct/ reconstruct Levantine and "Aramaean" identity. The imagery of the orthostat reliefs from the gates and monuments of the kings Kulamuwa and Barrakib as well as from the statue of an early king are studied. Each of these reflect an aspect of identity: individual and collective. But Sam'al was multicultural and its imagery unique, and hence there is nothing to describe it as specifically "Aramaean."
