The effect of Esmeron (Rocuronium, Org: 9426) on time course of endotracheal intubation and on the cardiovascular system

In 33 patients premedicated with Diazepam 0.2mg/kg and Atropine 10 mu g/kg and induction by Fentanyl 2 mu g/kg and Propofol 2.5 mg/kg the use of Esmeron had excellent (84.8%) and good (15.2%) condition according to Goldberg's criteria. Cardio-vascular effects were rather stable; slight increase in heart rate (10%) and minimum change in mean blood pressure (17%). This change returned to the previous state after 5 minutes with a maintenance dose (0.15 mu g/kg). No abnormality in EKG was noted. The lag time was very short, 25.4 seconds and a rather strong maximum blockade, 98.6% after a quick onset time of 171 seconds, The recovery index was 14.4 minutes and the clinical duration was 33.8 minutes with a bolus dose of 0.6mg/kg and 22.5 minutes with a maintenance dose 0.15mg/kg.
