摘要
Akira Kurosawa's 1985 movie Ran is a new take on William Shakespeare's King Lear. Considering Ran as more than just a cultural translation of a Western play, this essay looks at how the original English text was adapted in Kurosawa's film, and compares their respective plot lines. In so doing, this essay calls on Jacques Derrida's concept of hauntology and suggests that the movie is a faithful echo of the original play : a tale about the impossibility of inheritance, also seen in itself as a legacy.
