Local interpretations of information technology

In this paper I will focus on local interpretations of information technology (IT) through qualitative material. It is my aim to explore how information technology intervenes with local situations and what kind of meanings IT is given in people's everyday life. Do the interviewees see information technology as a masculine culture or is IT and information society seen as equal as it aims at being. I will approach IT through in particular women's experiences in rural space that is the context of the experiences and interpretations. To pursue this aim, I will present in this paper two North-Karelian women and discuss their experiences and interpretations of IT and information society.
